7” ep in oversized cover, released by A.A.A., ref# S01, France, 1982
Germain Hubert Ales was the duo of A.Y.A.A. label founder Etienne Himalaya and Dorian Feller, aka Brodé Tango aka Bruno Chapoutot (see previous post), who both would later be members of Look De Bouk, 1984-91. Their unique disc was the first release on A.A.A., as it was then known, followed, also in 1982, by the Rock Feller ep and the legendary ‘Douze Pour Un’ compilation LP, including one other track by Germain Hubert Ales. The label was also very active with a Festival and a weekly radio show in Reims, the Notes music magazine and a mail order business. GHA’s music is inspired by Der Plan and Renaldo and the Loaf, while the group’s name is itself a pun on the famous Deutschland Über Alles hymn and Dead Kennedys 1979’s parody on their first single. The duo’s instrumentation includes: drums, castanets, guitar, synth, vocals, sped-up instruments and voices. The first track, for instance, is for bass and multi-tracked kazoo. Ripped at 320kbps though the music is rather lo-fi and the pressing quality is unimpressive.
it’s “Renaldo and the Loaf”, you accidently brought a “y” in.
the name sure is fun – “Hubert” being pronounced in French the same way like “über” (over) in German. Dead Kennedys’ “California über alles” was a favorite song for me in my youth – i especially liked the first lp!
i’m not sure what to expect from this here – though the reference to renaldo + the loaf and der plan sounds not too bad.
cheerio, continuo – you’re a constant weblogger, sure you are.
Thanks for signaling the typo, Lucky. I’ll correct the post accordingly.
This disc being such an obscure French release, information in English is not to be found on the web. This is an exhilarating record and a legendary rarity. I’m sure you’ll agree with the references I mentioned.
Renaldo and the Loaf …….. Der Plan …….. Dead Kennedys ……… hhhuuummmm ……… I should enjoy this one !
Thanks
I don’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy it. It’s good.
A real joy, these avant rock posts, among all the others, of course!
Thanks, Jan.
It was affirmative. Now that I’ve listen to it, it’s definitive : I enjoy it.
Have a nice day.

You’re welcome.
seems like i have to be the salt in this soup – i don’t like it. maybe i’ve been listening too much to dutch improvised music lately, maybe i’m just not in the right mood. so it goes. cheers anyway!
Never mind, Lucky. I guess Dutch improvised music is just insidiously perverting you. Dutch deprogramming, they call it ;D
continuo – i’m not sure about the “pervertion” aspect. to be serious – in the past i was absolutely mad about anything from ata tak, ralph records and the like. the more i grow i older, the more i seek emotionally “deep” stuff (whatever that means) – but the core of lunatic stuff like this here is produced by young grown-ups, isn’t it? and i’m not in that state anymore, and consequently switch to more mature performers as well.
but maybe all this is part of the dutch deprogramming. to escape it a little bit, today i posted a typical “psychic lucky” compilation – but couldn’t help incl. one dutch dickhead, but enuff lunacy as well…
Don’t deprive yourself from humor in music would be my advice.
humour was always a very important part of my taste in music – and always will be. but humour also differs very much, from subtle to bang-bang. and on this planet are not two people who dig absolutely the same humour. i always was a big admirer of the early dadaists, and that includes every art form there is.

this ones really sounds like the residents dont you think?
More like Renaldo and the Loaf, IMO.
“More like Snakefinger, then.” ;)
Lucky, are you such a pervert you’re following all comments to this post via RSS? Admittedly, I first wrote ‘more like Snakefinger’, considering the prominent use of guitar in both Germain Hubert Ales and Snakefinger. But then I changed my mind and thought the style is definitely in line with Renaldo and the Loaf. Not the Residents, then.
continuo – you as webmaster of this blog sure must have more ideas how in heaven’s name i get e-mail-notification here! i admit that i’m a pervert, yes, and a psychic one, too. but i’m not that masochistic that i follow ALL the comments to your blog, it’s already enough with my own – i simply follow were i drop a comment, otherwise i wouldn’t know the answer or a possible insult, am i right or am i right?
and to change the weird subject a bit – congratulations for the new header! definately more weird (and fitting!) than the other one. i quite like the trio. say: did you paint it? it’s a bit frightening (like some of the music you post), but beautiful in its own unique way.
You should subscribe to the RSS feed for the ‘About’ section. Plenty of interesting info over there.
