The Denny Motion Group was the project of German guitarist Harald Winkler-Rauter, also known as Harald Winkler and Sven Perner. But this LP features contributions from other Coloursound alumni Marc Monsen,  John Tender, Hans Günther Bunz, Lars Holmen as well as label-boss Gunter Greffenius. Harald Winkler-Rauter is a talented multi-instrumentist who now composes for piano (the Piano Impressions CD interpreted by Claudine Chabrol, Selec, SEL 5125) and conducts the Münchner Barock-Philharmonie orchestra on several discs, like Weihnachtsträume (Delta Digital, 1993) and Am Weihnachtsbaum (Laserlight Digital, 2005). Winkler-Rauter was already active during the 1970s as a member of Orchestra Harry Winkler (the Rusty Strings LP on Golden Ring Records, Germany, 1975) and under the Denny Motion Group moniker on a collective LP for Europhon (see discography below). Denny Motion then published three LPs on Coloursound between 1981 and 1985, plus the Concrete Abstractness LP on Phon Und Ton, sometime during the 1980s.

♫  Published 1985, Image features instrumental, electronic tracks with echoes of Y.M.O., New Wave and Tangerine Dream. While the fine synth and sequencer programming serves as  the backbone of all tracks, the performance of Winkler-Rauter on electric guitar gives the music its distinctive character. Some solid bass lines add excitement to some tracks and, generally speaking, the mix is rather heavy on the bass department, as if the producers wanted to emulate a dub record. Is this Kingston, Jamaica or München, Bavaria? Great compositions, anyway.

Reads like an interesting one…Tangerine Dream mentioned with the longest track at under four minutes. Can’t wait to hear it.

The LP is a perfect soundtrack to a summer vacation… even if you’re not on vacation! Enjoy.
