Richard Jobson (born Dunfermline, Scotland, 1960), frontman with Scottish punk band The Skids from 1979 to 81, turned to poetry reading and spoken word LPs in 1981, releasing most of his records on Les Disques du Crépuscule. 16 Years of Alcohol was his last release for the Belgian label and came with accompanying 24pp book illustrated by Philip Core’s line drawings, published by Les Livres du Crépuscule (scans included in the d/l file). Divided into 17 parts, each a snapshot or short episode of the author’s progress, the autobiographical text describes a progressive addiction to alcohol from childhood to late teens. Not a mere AA therapy though, the text deals with recurring themes of affection or lack thereof, difficult human relationships, and the place of the writer in society. Religion, football and youngsters’ wicked behavior are equal parts of the author’s malaise as well. Jobson’s powerful voice delivers a poignant reading with a background of synth, light guitar and piano accompaniment. In 2003, Jobson released a film inspired by this disc, titled Sixteen Years of Alcohol, with Kevin McKidd in the lead role, a rare example of an LP inspiring a film.

just to be picky about the discography :-)

    – “badman” is not only a single but a full length album (and very different from the crépuscule releases)
    – some of the stuff (“ballad of etiquette” and “… summer night / afternoon in company”) has been rereleased on “les temps modernes”.

Thanks for the info, sto. Just to be clear: I don’t post LTM reissue material here.

Le tampon sur le label m’intrigue beaucoup … J’ai quelques (bons) disques qui ont ce même tampon et trouvés dans la même boutique de Bordeaux … Je me trompe ?

Un bloggeur ne révèle pas ses sources.

And there I was thinking I was perhaps the only person in the universe to buy this record.
