Ghédalia Tazartès: vocals, accordion, objects & CDs
Nicolas Lelièvre: percussion, table top guitar, organ & noise

More a ceremony than a concert proper, this is nonetheless a rare opportunity to witness french demiurge Ghédalia Tazartès in a rare live appearance (hey, do I start writing like Mutant Sounds or what?). He’s pairing with drummer and multi-instrumentist Nicolas Lelièvre, known for his theater incidental music – in short, a Tazartès colleague. This is not the complete show: neither the performance nor my recording being faultless, I’ve been editing my favorite passages to share with you today. The performance is centered around Tazartès’ vocals, wether his own invented language or poetry reading from René Daumal (on track #4, a poem familiar from his 1990 ‘Check Point Charlie’ CD on AYAA), even extending to overtone singing on track #2. Other instruments include percussion and accordion. Though this recording is definitely not a good introduction to Tazartès, I still love the opening track on sparse, gloomy accordion ; the whistlings ; the raucous vocals ; the intense poetry reading.

thanks for sharing the music. i was there in the room also. i didn’t like the way nicolas lelievre played with the master (tazartes) as he tended to overwhelm and make more noise than him… which was not a proof of listening. still, there were great vocal moments from time to time…

I agree with you. The fact is Lelièvre comes from another realm of music which is not shamanistic nor experimental nor musique concrète. Though probably a good showman, he just doesn’t quite match Tazartès’ unique sound world.

I’m not agree. The idea was not Tazartès with a “sideman” but the meeting of two powerful artists each with a very particular approach.

Forgive us, Oskar, but we are basicaly Tazartès fans. Indeed the 2 have a different approach, maybe just too different. Thanks for your comment.
